Chongqing Folk Songs of Anti-Japanese War refer to folk songs associated with Anti-Japanese War, created by Chongqing people and widespread during that war. They directly reflect Chongqing people’s life and thoughts, through which their social living reality and their mentality during that war can be seen. They contain abundant thematic connotations and unique esthetic characteristics and show distinctive traits of times and culture. Due to the enrichment and diversity of means of spread, they, with extremely strong vitality, fulfill the function of public opinion and have great social influences. The geographical conditions and cultural atmosphere of their generation and spread have an obvious Chongqing brand.The present paper mainly consists of three parts. Introduction is an overview of theoretical and research value of Chongqing folk songs of Anti-Japanese War, which covers the current trends and research value of Chinese modern folk songs, folk songs during Anti-Japanese War in China and especially in Chongqing. Chapter One discusses their thematic connotations including accusation against Japanese soldiers’ violent conduct, praise for soldiers and civilians during the war, mobilization of aids in the war, a reveal of life suffering and a show of Chongqing folklore. Chapter Two centers on their unique esthetic characteristics involving incitement to emotion, an epic style of narration, forceful and poetic features in aesthetics, and a dialectal way of expressing. Chapter Three explores their spread features. According to communication studies, based on the differences in the communication carrier, main body and means, it expounds from three perspectives respectively, namely written and oral communication, official and folk communication, and organized and spontaneous communication.
