Study On Protection Of The World Heritage Cultural Landscape Of Mount Wutai

A lot of valuable world heritage sites have been created and remained during theprocess of human development, which are the common wealth of all mankind andprecious resources for us to review human history, research symbiotic relationshipbetween human and nature, then make a way to the future development. MountWutai is a famous Buddhist holy land in China and even in the world. It was listedas a world heritage cultural landscape by the UNESCO in2009. Mount Wutai hasbeautiful natural sceneries, refreshing summer, and pleasant environment. withTaihuai Town as its center, hordes of Buddhism buildings and numerous culturalrelics are located in this place. It has an extremely high ornamental and researchvalue.The local government and residents makes great efforts to support Mount Wutaiin applying for the world heritage, which has positive influence on the improvementof the environment and the protection of heritage resources. Mount Wutai is morefamous especially after becaming a world heritage site successfully, but someheritage protection problems still exist, which should be seriously considered.Based on the concepts, classification, and characteristics relevant to worldheritage, this thesis briefly describes the world heritage and related protection works,and analyzes the present situation of domestic and international heritage protectionworks. Besides, taking the cultural landscape as the main research object, the thesismakes some protection suggestions according to different functions of culturallandscape. The thesis takes Mount Wutai as an example to introduce heritageresources distribution and values according to literature review and field surveyresults, makes clear the main objects of heritage protection works; Compared it withother Buddhist mountains and other cultural landscapes all over the world, the thesisanalyzes the difference heritage value, and founds out the advantages anddisadvantages of heritage development and protection to be a reference for futureprotection works; Summarized the present problems in protecting Mount Wutaithrough SWOT, data comparison, and environment capacity, we know that heritage protection need to be improved. Based on the materials of Mount Wutai applying inthe world heritage and the detailed comparison of various selecting criterions, thethesis analyzes the china and western countries differences in identifying heritageprocess, which will make reference for later heritage declaration. Declaring worldcultural heritage, we should recognize its value well, prepare declaration materialsseriously and make it more targeted in the future. The thesis summarizes the presentproblems of Mount Wutai and makes sustainable suggestion in the cultural relics,scenic area management and natural resources, etc. Some certain aspects should beimproved such as building monitoring protection, concentration on natural resourcesvalue, etc.
