Chinese Buddhist was originated from India in Mingdi Emperor, Yongping Period in Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 64) and subsequently attained rapid development, especially in the area of Wutai Mountain. Developing in Wei and Jin, Southern and Northern, Sui Dynasties, Buddhism and Buddhist temples reached its peak during Tang Dynasty in Wutai Mountain which became Chinese Buddhist center, known as Buddha Kingdom later,The prosperity of Buddhism and Buddhist temples of the Wutai Mountain in Tang and Song Dynasties was inseparable from the political status of Mount Wutai. In this period, successive rulers vigorously promote and support Buddhism, rebuilt Buddhist temples, making the Wutai Mountain Buddhism tourism and cultural extremely prosperous. It can be said that Wutai Mountain Buddhism created the classic Buddhist temples, the powerful influence driven by which in turn promote the development of Buddhism, and a powerful "Buddhist temples economy" and "Buddhist cultural circles."Based on a fully understanding and tapping of Buddhist cultural connotation and characteristics of Mount Wutai Buddhist temples in Tang and Song Dynasties, through a typical analysis of Buddhist culture tourism implication and cultural heritage, this thesis tries to identify the bright spots of their development, and expand tourism cultural and artistic conception of Mount Wutai more effectively. With several field visits, in-depth analysis and references to relevant information on Wutai Mountain Buddhism and Buddhist temples in Tang and Song Dynasties, the author tries to maximize the recovery of the prosperity of Mount Wutai Buddhist temple in Tang and Song Dynasties, explore the relationship among Buddhism, Buddhist temples and tourism of Mount Wutai, and amplify Buddhism Cultural tourism resources in this period. It is hoped that this thesis would contribute to the development of Buddhist tourism products with cultural characteristics, and also provide historical inspiration and reference to the application for UNESCO World Culture heritage and to the construction of harmonious society.
