As a kind of new natural cellulose fiber, banana fiber is very popular due to its natural environmental advantages and excellent wearability in the development of new materials. Nowadays, people pay more and more attention to life and nature, so the exploiter of banana fibers will accord with the trend of global textile development. So a systematic study is necessary to rational use and development of banana fiber.In this paper, the structure and properties of degummed banana fiber are studied and analyzed. Some researches are done in the following aspects:1. Analyzing the microscopic morphology of banana fiber by some modern techniques and methods, such as scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The results show that the morphology of banana fiber is very similar to ramie. It’s a typical cellulose fiber, and its degree of crystallization and orientation is smaller than ramie.2. Testing basic mechanical property of banana fiber, including the tensile property, relaxation property and friction property. The experiments show that the banana fiber is a kind of fiber with high strength and low elongation. The strength and initial modulus of wet fiber have greatly improved. Besides, the friction coefficient of banana fiber is very close to ramie.3. Testing mechanical property of banana fiber by heat treatment, alkali treatment and ultraviolet treatment. The experiments indicate that the banana fiber has good heat resistance, alkali resistance and UV resistance.4. Study on moisture absorption and desorption property and dyeing property of banana fiber. The results proof that the banana fiber has good moisture absorption. And it has characteristics of natural cellulose fibers in moisture absorption and desorption. In addition, banana fiber has excellent dyeing property, and its dyeing rate and fixation rate are higher than ramie.
