Lubricant is usually producted by blending base oil with various additives. Pour point depressant for lubricating oil is one of important additives.It can effectively enhance the flow properties of lubricant oil at low-temperature.The synthesis and application of aminolysis of α-alkyl methacrylate-maleic anhydride-styrene(AMS) was mainly studied in this paper. Alkyl methacrylate (n(C16):n(C18): n(C20)=1:2:1) was synthesized by direct esterification. The best synthesis process conditions were gained by single factor experiment and response surface methodology with esterification yield as index. The optimal experiment conditions were as follows:when the molar ratio of methylacrylic acid and mixed alcohol (n(C16):n(C18):n(C20)=1:2:1) was1.5; the amount of catalyst was1.2%; inhibitor was0.74%; reaction temperature was140℃and time was4.5h; using toluene as solvent. The yield of a-alkyl methacrylate was89.10%under these conditions. The product was tested by IR spectroscopy after the purified treatment. The results show that the product is a-alkyl methacrylate.We chose styrene and maleic anhydride as monomers for radical copolymerization with different carbon chain lengths alkyl methacrylate.Many kinds of pour point depressants for lubricating oil were synthesized including AMS-12、AMS-14、AMS-16、AMS-18、AMS-20、 M1、M2、M3.M1shows the best on the effect of pour point depressant. Mole ratio of alcohol of M1was as follows:n(C16):n(C18):n(C20)=1:2:1. The best synthesis process conditions of M1were gained by single factor experiment and orthogonal experiment with ΔSP as index. The optimal experiment conditions were as follows:n(a-methyl methacrylate ester):n(maleic anhydride):n(styrene)=5:1:1; initiator was0.8%; reaction temperature was85℃and time was5h.when the addition of M1was0.1%(mass fraction)of paraffinic base oil, pour point was dropped by12℃. M1was tested by IR.Based on p-toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst, pour point depressant for lubricating oil was synthesized with terpolymer and different carbon chain lengths alkyl amine in order to have a better sensitivity on the base oil. Octadecane aminolysis of terpolymer shows the best on the effect of pour point reducer. The product was characterized by IR.When the addition of the pour point depressant was0.12%(mass fraction)of paraffinic base oil, pour point was dropped by17℃. In the end, the mechanism of pour point depressant was preliminary studied by microscopic observation.
