Ancient Buddhist architectures symbolize a special religious meaning with a unique architectural space. Ancient Buddhism architectural arts in many different forms have high aesthetic value and historical value. Thailand, as a Southeast Asia country deeply influenced by Buddhism, possesses highly developed Ancient Buddhist architectures. It developed in the history, integrated multiple cultures, and reflected the distinctive characteristics of the times.The paper begins with the study of the ancient Buddhist buildings in Thailand, and then explores the aesthetic principles and aesthetic characteristics embodied in the Buddhist architectures and sculptures, which was mainly influenced by Theravada Buddhism, but also by other cultures. Aesthetic principles are embodied in the spirit of Buddhist art and the creation of multi-cultural fusion. Aesthetic characteristics refer to the form beauty, style beauty and idea beauty in the ancient Buddhist architectures.The study employs an elaboration way combining theories and examples. It goes through theories, analyses, examples, and finally to the conclusion. Meanwhile, it makes a dynamic study of the formation and manifestations of the aesthetic features, from the historical point of view. First, it makes an overview of the ancient Buddhist buildings in Thai. Since the natural geography and social culture are the roots and soil of the ancient Buddhist architectural arts in Thai, affecting the distribution and morphology of the ancient buildings, it’s necessary to describe the natural and cultural backgrounds of the ancient Buddhist architectural arts in Thai. Second, it explores the aesthetic principles of the ancient Buddhist architectural arts in Thai. Finally, it analyzes the aesthetic features of the ancient Buddhist architectural arts in Thai.With the development of history, the ancient Buddhist architectures gradually lost its religious practical value, and became cultural relics. Accompanying the wave of economic development, they have been developed as tourism resources to attract tourists from all over the world, so as to create economic interests. The unique aesthetic value of the ancient buildings plays a key role in the tourism economy. How to explore their aesthetic connotation and how to coordinate economic development and heritage conservation deserves our further thinking.
