Relay protection device is important part of electric power system automation, also one of the major steps which ensure electric power system operate securely. Before, protection for component of35KV or below voltage ratings wasnot perfect. In addition, special microcomputer relay protection device of35KV or below voltage ratings was seldom. From this, economic loss and social influence came into being. Therefore, it is very important for equipment security and system stability to study component protection of MV or LV ratings.This dissertation gives a research in compotent protection of35KV hydropower plants.Namely according to regulations of35KV hydropower plant, pefect protection scheme is advanced.Firstly, the paper summaries the survey of power system relay protection, which based on the theory of microcomputer protection and its advanced trend.After, the design for electricity system and electrical equipment select is illustrated.Secondly, this dissertation describes major fault types and innormal operation conditions of each compotent including bus, power transformer, and generator. And relevant protection is disposed on these compotents. Lastly, patterns choose, setting and evaluation for protection is illustrated in details. Regarding pattern choose, suitable microcomputer protection device is applied which based on all kinds of advantages of microcomputer protection, meanwhile satisfies these four characters such as reliability, selectivity, sensitivity and speediness.Futhurmore, on the basis of setting principle, setting value is listed. After analyzing protection function in details, pefect protection scheme is put forward,which ensures power system operate securely.
