With the rapid development of China’s automobile industry, the production and sales of commercial vehicles as well as road use continued to increase. But compared with passenger cars, the safety performance of commercial vehicles is relatively weak, it is very important to study how to improve the occupant protection performance of commercial vehicle."The protection of the occupants of the cab of a commercial vehicle"(GB26512-2011),which is reference to the ECE R29standard have been formally implemented, shows the concern of the goverment, as well as the automotive industry, commercial vehicle safety performance.Based on the previous studies at home and abroad, applying Altair’s crash safety analysis package, study the effect of body sheet stamping residual effect on the vehicle safety analysis, a finite element model of a light truck was built. Comparing the test and simulation results of cab modal analysis and vehicle100%frontal impact, the accuracy of the finite element mode was verified.According to GB26512-2011standard, frontal impact, roof strength test and rear wall strength test were carried out, a prescribed manikin in accordance with the standards was built for verifying the survival space during the collision. To adapt to the future possible higher requirements for light trucks safety performance, according to the ECE R29-03standard, A-pillar impact analysis and pendulum20°side impact analysis were added. It is found that living space of A-pillar impact can not meet the requirements, the smallest living space of pendulum20°side impact is only75.3mm, the cab was completely crushed, the occupant protection is not enough. Through appling structural foam in A-pillar and side panel, adding roof crossbeam and reinforcing plate of floor and rear wall, the structural strength and stiffness of cab was improved, the force transmission path was optimized, make the light trucks passed the A-pillar impact and pendulum20°side impact test.
