The suspended projectile is a kind of new low-altitude defensive weapons, it can suspend in air for a short time by its suspended device, to build a barrier against intruding aircraft or missile, so that ships and facilities on ground can be protected. Including lifting device and driver, hovering device is the key point of suspended projectile. To study the technical feasibility of hovering device was the main point of this paper.According to analysis of three kind of lift source formed by propeller and floating balloon and jet propulsion, propeller was decided to provide lift for suspended device. Theoretical analysis model that based on momentum theory and blade element theory was built to analyze the lift. The characteristics of propeller airfoil at low speed are analyzed by using of finite element simulation software, finding that thin arc airfoil with sharpening processing has good aerodynamic characteristics at low Reynolds number field, and its fit for the propeller of suspended device. According to the driving modes, three kind of technical proposal of suspended device driven by motor, tip jet and turbine were designed. Analysis model of tip jet and turbine driving suspended device were established to analyze the driving force. The parameters of structural and performance were determined through preliminary estimate, and three kinds of test prototype of suspended device were developed. Through proof test, figure out the performance and driving efficiency of suspended device. The test result shows that suspended device driven by turbine has been hovering in air for a short time. The difference between experimental and calculation results was smaller than9%, shows that the theoretical analysis model can be used for lift calculating of suspended device.The highlights of this paper were that test prototypes of suspended device were developed, line bearing and a sleeve with two degrees of freedom were used for keeping the propeller rotating at a high speed and the suspended device vertical floating stably at the same time, its simplified the structure of the test prototypes, making its convenient to measure the rotating speed and the lifting force. The aerodynamic calculating model and three kind of technical proposal of suspended device and the test results can provide theory support and technical way for study of suspended projectile.
