Liao Dynasty was established by khitan people. It exists with Five Dynasties, Song Dynasty side by side, which is another period of national fusion after Southern and Northern Dynasties in Chinese history.The essay examines Hanren’s khitanization during the Liao Dynasty through the Han lineage. It explores the Han lineage’s internal process of development and decline. It also discusses their khitanization show in four aspects, political, economic, custom and culture as well as analyses the reasons and effects of the Han lineage and Hanren’s khitanization.The Han lineage’s khitanization was the result of many internal and external factors. In one hand, the Han lineage was captive. They were forced to live with khitans. Meanwhile they acquainted, accepted and melt into khitans. In the other hand, in order to have a comparatively rich life and a good social position, the Han lineage learnt other’s language and melt into their life. Finally, they were exalted to the most notable Hanren family in Liao Dynasty rely on their own efforts.The Han lineage’s khitanization not only get earthshaking changes for their own but also have far-reaching effects for Liao Dynasty. For the Han lineage, they shook off slavery and become one of the most famous nobility. At this time, they have power to effect khitan domestic and foreign policies. As well as the change of dignity, they possess manor. For the society, the change of the Han lineage stir up their determination to serve the king. It maintained social stability. They spread advanced culture to khitans that greatly pushed the process of feudal. Furthermore, they set a good example in national mixture.
