On the eighty time of last century, especially after reform and opening up, Chinese inkpainting has been faced with the unheard-of challenge by the impact of foreign culture andthought of art. In the pluralistic context of society culture, the variety of ink form has beenproduced, besides they have been explored and practiced by artist. The traditional inkpainting has showed a strong inclusiveness and an infinite possibility. In this period urbanink-portraits painting as the new thing that has been developed less than twenty years, hasreformed and innovated the inside of the traditional ink painting with assimilating the westernmodern art extensively. Nowadays urban ink-portraits painting brings about the contemporarythinking for the social and cultural problem with artists’ survival experience of thecontemporary city culture. It is the characteristic different from other ink form. This textattempts to analyze the contemporary feature and language expression of urban ink-portraitspainting deeply, on the basis of discussing and studying the background of urban ink-portraitspainting and the development process. Then further it deliberates the meaning in thediversified culture context, analyzes the problem, and forecasts the development direction. Itintends to emphasize the conversation between urban ink-portraits painting in the presentsociety with the present culture.The article includes three chapters. In the first chapter, it introduces the concept of urbanink-portraits painting, also analyzes the social background, the cultural background and thepainting environment of urban ink-portraits painting. The second chapter analyzes thecharacteristics of the times and language expression of urban ink-portraits painting from threeaspects. In the last chapter, it summarized the realism solicitude in the diversified culturecontext, and the meaning for painting and culture by urban ink-portraits painting. Besides itanalyzes and points out the problem to be faced in the process of development. Then itforecasts and provides some advices for the direction of development of urban ink-portraitspainting.
