Expression of portraits means that the facial expressions of figures in oilpaintings, which is a way to express their emotions. It shows the extrinsic value andreflects the most direct and clear reaction of the external world of experience. In orderto express a special emotion of some characters in oil paintings, expression ofportraits become a kind of emotional communication between artists and audience,then both of artists and viewers can achieve emotional resonance.Modernism oil painting has experienced various stages of development.Expression of portraits has different performance in the development of oil painting.Since PRC established, Chinese artists has gone through several different styles inartistic creation, such as Revolutionary period painting, Cultural Revolution painting,Cynicism painting, Rational painting, Local Realism painting, Scar Art, NewGeneration of Fine Art, and so on. The appearance of these paintings, reflect the facesof all the areas of society vividly. Therefore, the description of expression of portraitformed one of the main forms of every stage of the creation of Chinese Contemporaryoil paintings. This article aims to study the proposition of the expression of portraitsof Chinese Contemporary Art and Oil Painting, which based on author’s own creationand research, as well as reflected the development and changes of times.The external manifestation of the expression of portraits shows that diversifiedlanguage of the creation of Chinese Contemporary oil painting represented socialinfluence and caused psychological implications in different periods. With thecontinuous development of Chinese Art, we can clearly see that residence ideologyand the various changes formed the stance of the human-oriented. The facialexpressions of characters in oil painting changed from boring cheerful looks todiversify expressions. Analysis the expression of portraits during the process ofcreation in Chinese Contemporary Oil Painting systematically has an importantsignificance in Art of oil painting.
