Culture is a social and historical phenomenon, it evolves with the development of socialproduction; literature is built on a foundation of cultural arts, passing on culture, an importantcarrier of culture. Different cultural environment will develop a variety of literary works.Jin PingMei,writing in the Ming dynasty during Wanli and Jiajing period,takes commercial ports alongthe coast of the Canal of Linqing as the background;describes the canal along the political,economic, and other aspects of secular changes in development, especially to show differentmerchants ’ business activities. It can be said that Jin Ping Mei is a masterpiece about Canalculture.Through access to large amounts of historical data and anthologies, and on the basis ofprevious results of theoretical studies, Combination of geography, disciplines such as sociology,economics, history, folklore knowledge and document analysis, comprehensive analysis,experience a variety of research methods, is based on the novels.the author discusses the Canalculture characteristics of Jin Ping Mei.This paper tries to geographical background,businessmen, from business, business town and the respect such as social fashion to illustratethis specific characteristics. The article is divided into five parts:The first part: Introduction. The introduction to this paper presents the research status andthe significance and methods.The second part: Relationship between Jin Ping Mei and Canal culture. First,I discusse thedevelopment of the Grand Canal during the Ming dynasty and the cultural characteristics of theCanal.It has four aspects,such as regional economy prospered along the Grand Canal; rise ofcommercial ports along the Canal town; open and inclusive. Second,I analysis the relationshipbetween Jin Ping Mei and the Grand Canal from the geographical background. Finally focusedon analysis of the Jin Ping Mei description of the political, economic and public life and cultureof internal relations of the Canal.The third part: Canal cultural background the merchants image. Jin Ping Mei describesmany businessmen′s commercial activities. According to business methods and types, the workreflects businessman types can be divided into shops, shippers, teeth and usurer. Main characterXimen Qing is a typical representative of the many merchants, I intend to take him as anexample, to focus on the merchant in Jin Ping Mei way of doing business, business strategy andthe Canal culture.The fourth part: Canal cultural context of the commercial town. Beijing-Hangzhou GrandCanal,opening in Ming dynasty, greatly improves North-South traffic environment, drives alongthe prosperity and development of the economy and culture, and promotes a large number of developed port towns, forms a business of economic belt along the Grand Canal. Linqing, thebackground of the story of Jin Ping Mei, will stand erect in this belt.Its economic, commercial,transportation, accommodation, restaurants, cultural and entertainment industries greatly prosper,reflecting the cultural characteristics of the canal.The fifth part: Canal culture on the influence of the social fashion. With the development ofcommodity economy, money in the increasing prominence in people’s lives, constantly hittingthe world of traditional ideas and old ways to make change。These changes are mainly in themercantile profit values for prevalence; extravagant enjoyment thought spread; violatingetiquette more than business phenomenon and the spreading of moral disorder.
