This article is a research on The Paintings of Sellers by Lv Wenying. With effective evidence based on the analysis of the image and the documents by the method of comparison, it proves the value and significance of The Paintings of Sellers. For the social value, the motive force of social development comes from humans themselves and the activities by which humans create history. The Paintings of Sellers is the demonstration of the process of social development which record the social customs truthfully by image. This kind of paintings are very valuable because they not only reflect the rich material culture and social customs of times, but also provide precious information to the research in history, sociology, economics and the study of folk customs. For artistic value, The Paintings of Sellers by Lv Wenying is praised and accepted because of its perfect drawing, rich and colorful content and vivid plots. The painter summarized the complicated social activities vividly with his remarkable ability of drawing, which reproduces artistically the lively city life in the old days by image.This article has four chapters. First, it makes the principle of composition clear. Then it does deep research on the image of Lv Wenying’s The Paintings of Sellers and analyzes the rich material culture and social customs. Finally it summarizes the value of these paintings in sociology, economics and fine arts and the inspiration for the creation of modern Chinese paintings.
