As we all know, Harold Pinter’s plays have always been famousfor its unique style. Vague and ambiguous story, the confined spaceof a very oppressive, and the logic-unclear dialogue, etc., give thePinter plays the mysterious, seductive and unique charm. But it isprecisely this unique work style that makes it difficult for critics toclassify it to any of the drama genre. Therefore, in the OxfordEnglish Dictionary, there appears a new word——“Pinteresque”which is named after Harold Pinter’s last name. Additionally, theconcepts of “Comedy of Menace” and “Memory Play” which arederived by Pinter’s work style have also become important terms inthe drama dictionary. These all show the essential influence of Pinterin the entire world of the theater.Pinter’s highly personalized work style is closely related to hisview that in fact, there is no clear distinction between “real andimaginary”,“true and false”. Therefore, constantly in his dramaticworks some voices of doubt to those certain ideas are conveyed, andthus form a multi-angle, multi-level space of question and doubt. And, this space is not to passively negate, on the contrary, itsexistence implies some kind of challenge spirit and positive thinkingattitude. This paper aims to start with the angle of Pinter’s creativeideas and creative approach, exploring the unique dramatic form andthe meaning of the space of question and doubt which is hidden in it.
