Edward Alexander MacDowell(1861—1908),as one of the 19th century’s mostoutstanding composers in the United States, was meanwhile regarded as a famouseducationist, conductor, and pianist. This articleabout Edward Alexander MacDowell’s woodland sketches, from the historicalbackground, composer’s experience and some other aspects, describes MacDowell’simportant status and academic value of his work, order to playing a more accurateinterpretation of woodland sketches.This article is divided into four chapters, The first chapter is Edward AlexanderMacDowell’s biography and overview of his music, it is divided into three sections,the first one is introduced the United States development of professional music’scharacteristic, that is production late, but development very fast.
