The Sino-French War in the year of 1883-1885, plays an importantturning role on the history of China and Vietnam vassal relationship. Inthe December of 1883, the French army attacked to Vietnam ShanXi, openingthe prelude of Sino-French War; In 1884, with Shanxi，Beining and Taiyuanbeing in succession fall, on the condition of the military victory ,Francecarried out further political coercion to The Vietnam and China; In theMay of 1884 ,《Sino-French concise treaty》had signed.It marked thedissolution of the millennium in the case of vassal relationship.In theearly stage of the Sino-French War, as the commander of GuangXi provinceXu Yanxu played a key role,his decision-making , strategic and tacticalability directed the success or failure of the early major battles of theSino-French War.Xu Yanxu,named xiaoshan,lived in Linqing of Shandong province. Becauseof the bandits active, he promoted step by step. In 1882,he baceme thecommander of Guangxi military which supported Vietnam’s.He entered theVietnam for pre-war inspection,the war arrangements and foodcollection.Because of the losing battle, he was changed to go to borderarea.Before that, Xu Yanxu died, the entire life ended in tragedy.The article being wrote from the character of Xu Yanxu.In the first part, it had a detailed introduction of his life ,describedthe book series" Vietnam series slightly" ,content and analyzed hisawareness of the Vietnam strategic status ,at the same time, consideredthe book’s value on the geography and military.In the Second part,the article made an analysis of his militaryarrangements and strategic intentions before and after the battle ofShanxi.The third part,it gave a research on his behavior on battles of Shanxi and Beining , at the same time , gave some aspects of the reasons of thecommand failure of the battle from physical fitness, military thought,management and military supply comparing French Army and ministry.The fourth part of the article, discussed his attitude andimplementation to the Qing government policy, sorted out the relationshipwith Qingliu officials.Finally, I tried to give an objective evaluation to Xu Yanxu, hopedto see big things through small things, and knew something of theSino-French War.
