Science fiction movie is movie form developed on the base of scientific andtechnical knowledge. As one of the genres of Hollywood’s most history, sciencefiction movies utilize the likelihood, authenticity, predictability of its story, and scenesof shocking, strange characteristics to attract the attention of global audience. Inrecent years, 3D, 4D, IMAX, represented by a series of advanced shooting andscreening technology, the rise of modern sci-fi movie, like "Jurassic Park","Transformers" and "Avatar", played as the representative in creating the historicallybox office miracle. From the two-dimensional space to three-dimensional space, andthen now the multi-dimensional space, every leap in Hollywood science fictionmovies can not be separated with advances in technology. However, expansion oftechnology development also lead the abuse of technology, which bring a series ofdisastrous consequences. As a result, after having experienced a technology“Carnival”, people began to introspect this phenomenon, including reflections inscience fiction movies. Compared to other areas in Hollywood, science fiction movieshas its unique feature in nature of reflection of technology and rational - it is atechnological critique based on the development of science and technology, whichdetermines their advantages and critical shackles in the process of reflection of thescience fiction movies. Therefore, take the Hollywood science fiction movies as astarting point, by analyzing movies, the author aims to investigate the characteristicsof reflection and philosophical meaning behind it.This article is divided into six chapters:The first chapter focuses on the background of Hollywood science fiction movies,rational reflection of the technology. With the rapid development of the technology,our environment has become worse and worse, now we face more and more seriouscrisis of survival. After European Middle Ages, with the demise of feudal theologicalsense, "technology" and "rationality" returned in the view of mass public. Advancement of technology brought the rapid development of the society, and theawareness of science and technology replaced the feudal theology, becoming a newspiritual home. With the worship of science and technology, the rise of "science andtechnology centrism", "Technology carnival" prevails. However, the seriousconsequences of technology floods in areas of nature and society forced people tostart a reflection of the new technology, and this reflection first rise in areas ofphilosophy and arts, and then spread to all areas of society. Under the influence of thisideological trend, Hollywood science fiction movies started reflections from their ownpart as well.The second chapter focuses on the challenges of the technological machines tryto control people. The emergence of a highly developed intelligent robots cancelledthe independence of human beings as creatures of thinking, creating and using thetools, which also challenges human’s“leader”and "ruler" status in socialdevelopment. This is mainly manifested in three aspects：control the body, control ourawareness, monitor people’s behavior.The third chapter explores the new challenges of the technological developmenton human society from the point of social existence and development order. In thischapterⅠinvestigate three important questions: If the definition of“human”could beexpanded? If the copy of human could also existed in our society. If we could changethe course of human history.ChapterⅣ, the development of technology enhanced human’s control over thesociety and nature, however, the unlimitedness of scientific technology anduncertainty about the future still boost people’s trepidation about the earth.ChapterⅤ, the technical rational reflection of Hollywood sci-fi movie is acritique and reflection based on technology. This feature gives the sci-fi movie a newmeaning in the process of critical technology, but also take many inadequacies to it.This chapter will focus on the characteristics and shackles of Hollywood sciencefiction movies in the process of critical technology, and the new tendency of rationalcritique of Hollywood technology.ChapterⅥ, based on the characteristics of the Hollywood science fiction movies, the author combines the present status of China’s movie development to explore theimplicational significance of the Hollywood sci-fi film on the development of Chinesecontemporary movies.
