The Berlin Crisis (1961-1963) and the Cuban Missile Crisis are all the most important and serious events in the U.S.-Soviet cold war in the20th century. They had significant influence to the U.S.-Soviet cold war pattern and the situation of the world. The thesis researches the interrelationship between The Berlin Crisis (1961-1963) and the Cuban Missile Crisis based on both sides of the US-Soviet declassified documents file and the research results of the scholars both at home and abroad.This thesis holds that, first,the starting point of the Soviet action in Cuban is seek the strength of the strategic balance with the U.S. in order to gain the upper hand on the dispute issues. After the fail of negotiations to resolve the Berlin crisis with the U.S., Khrushchev chose the adventure in Cuba in order that the U.S. can make some concession, and then as soon as possible to solve the Berlin problem.The U.S.feared about the relationship between the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Berlin problem,so its policy on the Cuban Missile Crisis is very cautious.Second, the peaceful solution of the Cuban Missile Crisis had an important effect on the Berlin Crisis and the Berlin Crisis tended to be relaxed. As a whole, after the two crisis, the world situation eased in a sense.The Soviet union and the U.S. in a certain extent, all achieved their strategic objective.Besides the introduction and the concluding parts, the thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter briefly introduces the two crises under the background of the U.S.-Soviet cold war. The second chapter discusses in detail the influence of the Berlin Crisis on the Cuban Missile Crisis. The third chapter discusses the policy and considerations of the two nations on the Berlin problem during the Cuban missile crisis.The fourth chapter discusses in the light of the solution of the Cuban missile crisis,the U.S.and the Soviet union altered the decision-making on Berlin problem, and this chapter also provides a comprehensive comparison of the similarities and differences of the decision-making of the U.S.and the Soviet union in the two crises. The conclusion part discusses the U.S.-Soviet cold war game through the two crises and summarizes the influence of the two crisis on the cold war strategy of the two nations.
