During the ten years of the national government capital in Nanjing, social situationhad been stable and rapid economic development had achieved, the female teachers incolleges had some significant changes. Most of them were born in gentlemen families oraristocratic families which were wealthy, and received good family education and modernschool education of Chinese and western system. They had relatively high cultural quality,occupations which they occupied brought them high social prestige. As college femaleteachers with independent consciousness, they had independent economic incomes andwere different from the former women. Whether their living style, social class or socialinfluence was all different from the former women and as well as from the other femalewomen in society. In the professional life, most of them had higher teaching and academiclevel, but under the influence of the traditional idea that man was strong while womenwas weak, female teachers still got a degree of discrimination on the duties as theappraisal and title. On the marriage,they dared to break through the old bondage ofmarriage and were quite seriously about the choice of marriage, paying more attention tothe spouse’s spiritual communication. But that thousands of years of customs were neithereasy to break nor the short term can change, made the female teachers’ marriage showingaction lag behind thought, their married life can be said to be witnessed the changes of thetimes. On the social lives, they used of their advantages, exerted personal strength to thethe maxium extent. They had made important contributions to the cause of women’sliberation. Their active participation in saving people from danger, and widelyparticipation in various social activities showed a new spiritual image. College femaleteachers as an important part of the emerging professional women, with their strong workspirits and many brilliant achievements, resulted in a flowery charter in the history ofwomen.
