In the long course of musical development,people can always keep some names clearly intheir mind,among which Sergei Vassilievitch Rachmaninoff, the final legendary advocate inromantic music of Russia, is inevitable one of the most shining names.He is a Russiancomposer,pianist and conductor at the turn of the20thcentury.He created many classicalworks,among which the Etudes-Tableaux,a famous work handed down from ancient times,hasstill been highly praised by modern people.The beautiful melody and unique composingtechniques that full of Russian national character and style, still astonished people in modernworld.In the Etudes-Tableaux, the Op33is perhaps the best work in his career as acomposer.During his production,he enjoyed the best condition of his career and life.Thehappiness of life and the birth of his child brought him infinite passions of production.The Op33contains a large amount of special techniques and creation way characterized byRachmaninoff.Here we will explore this master’s workpiece chiefly by analysing the harmonytechniques in the Op33.This paper mainly divides into the following several parts. The first chapter mainlysummarizes the master’s life experiences and the social environment of that age, music creativestyle and composing characteristics of piano music at that time.It also tells the creationbackground of the Op33and its genre form as well as music features. In the second chapter,thecharacter of the mode and tone can be seen through the utility of national music by the composer,as well as the diversity of mode and the demonstration of thinking mode.In Chapter3, the paperintroduces the character of chord shapes in the Op33through multiple use of transcriptions,including the use of chord of colorful mode, the expansion of traditional chord shapes using andthe special use of continual factors.What’s more,the paper analyses the utilization of those chordsby several examples.The paper in the fourth chapter expounds the character of harmony chordprocessing in the Op33,the use of thinking mode of linear chord.Then,it explains the continualuse of chord of colorful mode,including concrete instances. In this paper, the author hopes thatthrough the chord research about the Op33,it can help readers deepen their recognization inthinking mode of tone,mode and chord form use,and provide theoretical support for theunderstanding of Rachmaninoff’s composing thinking of chord,as well as the comprehensive andprofound analysis of Rachmaninoff’s music.
