In this paper, a common animal in the literary works of Tang Dynasty, horse is tried to give a more comprehensive classical culture interpretation from the literature, zoology, sociology, psychology, color science, history and other aspects. starting from two literary genres (poetry and legend) of the literature in the Tang Dynasty, combined with the biological properties of horse, a rich connotation of the horse in the literature as a cultural symbol is explored.This paper mainly includes three parts. The first part is the summery of the horse polity in Tang Dynasty. The development of horse polity in Tang Dynasty is simply introduced in order to be easily understood and give an sufficient statement. The second part is the horse images in the literature of Tang Dynasty. starting from two literary genres, different images and characteristics of horse in different literary genre is analyzed, and the reason for the difference is also explored. The third part is Cultural Interpretation of the horse image. Three fixed cultural phenomenon is explored from interdisciplinary perspective:righteous horse saves its host, exchange the horse with his concubine who he loves too much, and the horse’s deification tendency.This paper is based on previous studies, and its academic innovation includes the following parts:firstly, previous studies emphasis on the historians view and horse images in the poems of Tang Dynasty, it is tried to use the perspective of other disciplines to state the horse from the culture aspect. Secondly, previous studies emphasis on the single literary genre-poem, whereas it is tried to do analyse and comparison in this paper using two literary genres. Last, previous studies cares high frequency horse culture case in the literature works too little, in expectation of getting some new points, they were analyzed and explored in this paper.
