Modern Chinese With Single And Double Syllable Auxiliary Verbs Comparative Study

This thesis discusses the similarities and differences between thesingle syllable auxiliaries and the multisyllable auxiliaries which containthe same morphemes and have close meanings in modern Chinese.We selected “gai” and “yinggai”,“ke” and “keyi”,“neng” and“keneng”these six commonly used auxiliary verbs and divided them intothree groups to investigate.The “gai” and “yinggai”,“ke” and “keyi”,“neng” and“keneng”from the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic point of view,three chapters were compared. The first chapter compares “gai” and“yinggai”. Subjectivity of "the" greater than “yinggai”;“gai” and “hui”,“shi” can be negative in form and composition of the “bu”,“gaibuhui”said the speaker to infer something could happen, and idiomstendency;“yinggai”and“bu”，“bu”is still negative adverbs,“yinggaibu hui”and “yinggai bu hui” said the speaker infer that something cannot happen. The second chapter compares the“ke”and“keyi”.“ke”and “keyi”the most significant difference is reflected in the stylisticdifferences:"ke" generally appears in the written language, only inbeing opposed to the lift when spoken. Chapter III compares the“neng” and “keneng”. Express the speakers subjective projections andestimates,"neng" is more confident than "keneng"; said the possibility ofthe existence of subject of the sentence. Precisely because of this basisand objectivity,"keneng" choosing sentences also shows significantimbalance: most often used in interrogative sentences, negativesentence followed and not often in assertive sentences.To do a comprehensive comparison of Chapter IV of such auxiliaryexplore, and auxiliary verb+verb "nature of his views on: significance,auxiliary dynamic modality justice, the auxiliary verb+verb" form aboveBin relationship; auxiliary, said understanding of the situation state of righteousness,"auxiliary verb+verb" constitute shaped heartrelationship; said moral modality justice, the nature of the "auxiliary verb+verb"s there is a certain ambiguity, is between "state the bin" and "likeheart between the state.
