Modern Epic Drama: S Drama Research

Since the coming of the new century, the modern legendary TVseries, such as the era drama like "tie lihua " da zhaimen ", who havedramatic stories, complex character relationships, tangled sense ofnational identity, have conquest large audience, becoming thehot type of TV series on Chinas television screens. Most scholarsgenerally agree that the era drama is a mix of the ancient dramaand the romance drama, or the producer have no choice becausethe audience are weary of the ancient drama and the romancedrama, so they don’t give enough attention to this kind of TV series.Lacking of completed theoretical guidance and academic advise, theera drama’s development is confronted with a great difficulty. As anew type of TV series,it needs a deep academic study. This paperuse era dramas like Da Zhaimen,Jin Fen shijia,jing hua yan yun as anexample to study era dramas, trying to make a deep research fromthe development of status, narrative characteristics, culturalimplication and perspectives, aiming to analyze the topic, themeand background of the era drama,in order to be helpful for thedevelopment of drama.In the introduction part, through the analysis of the the presentstatus of this type of drama, showing the importance of this paper inthe study of the era drama. In the body part, firstly, this paper try tosort out the concept of era drama, recalling its production anddevelopment, describing the present status of it from theperspective of the market, plays, theme and production, trying tomake a breakthrough. And then from the narrative mode andelements, study the narrative features of the modern legend teleplays.In the narrative aspect, the era drama’s background, plot, suspenseand character set has trend of stylish. It usually uses legend stories, commercial warfare, ups and downs of family as story prototype, usingthe dramatic plot settings to put the person’s, family’s, Industry’sfate and social unrest periods contradictions together to draw theaudiences curiosity. Secondly, from the psychological need ofthe audience, this paper analyze the text value of era drama from thecultural connotation and theme aspect. the emotional appeal of theconcept of home and country, industrial spirit, pure love, whichgreatly shortened the distance of the audience and the television works,become another magic weapon of the dramas success. Finally, thispaper aims to make a simple reflection on the creation of the eradrama, pointing out its reasons for the success in the creation and itsproblems,and talk about the era drama’s development of spacein the future.
