The "X化" attracts many scholars wide attention anddiscussion,and many innovative achievements have been made. Theresearcher focuses on: the origin of "化", the characteristic of "X", thegrammaticalization process of "X化", syntactic function of "X化",semantic characteristics of "X化". Based on the achievement of theformer research, with rich corpus of Chinese and accurate statistics thepaper makes a comprehensive survey of "X化" and studies theformation rules of "X化"and its syntactic functions,including itsproductivity. This paper divides into six parts:Chapter One describes the current research of "X化" from theaspect of affixoid and relevant researches of "X化", it also introducesthe purpose of this paper and the linguistic material sources. At thesame time, it points out theoretic background and theoretical methodof the paper.Chapter Two identifies the nature of "化". This paper puts forwardthe idea that how to judge the affixoid on the base of the predecessorsstudy and makes a conclusion that "化"is a affixoid.Chapter Three studies the varieties of "X" and how "X化" forms. Thevarieties of "X" include syllable, linguistic unit, part of speech. It alsomakes a investigation of the similar character of different from thesemantics, and the etymology.Chapter Four describes syntactic function of "X化" and someappraisal frames is summed up."X化" could express many differentsyntactic functions in a sentence. Such as the subject, the verb, theobject, etc. Sometimes it is used in book title, a headline and comments.According to sentential circumstances, this paper tries to sum up somefixed frame when "X化" expresses different syntactic functions. Chapter Five explains why so many "X化" exist in modern Chinesefrom the internal system of language and the external system oflanguage.Chapter Six is the conclusion that generalize the major views ofthis paper, and points out that some questions of "X化" needs to beexplored in the future.
