In today’s society, people use animals, leading to the large-scale death of variousspecies. People’s cruel ill-treat, intentional injury and arbitrary torture emeryendlessly. Obviously, there are many important ethical issues in our relationship withanimals. With the progress of society, the expansion of human ethics has arousedpeople’s concern and thinking on animal issues, and introspect their biased attitudeson treating animals. Everyone should bear the responsibility of caring animals, andshould have a sense of ethics. The huge social impact of animal slaughter indicatesthat the influence of animal slaughter is getting increasingly stronger in China andeven in the world, and the scope of people’s concern on this issue is expanding withthe intensity enhancing as well. Therefore, scholars believe that solution to this issueis getting increasingly urgent, and some scholars have put forward theoreticalproposals related to this from various perspectives. With the development of Westernanimal protection movement, famous American philosopher Peter Singer proposedthe theory of animal liberation in the first place in1975, and the “animal liberationmovement” of Peter Singer was also officially started. Since then, thinking on therelationship between human beings and animals never stopped. Besides Peter Singer’s utilitarian ethics, there were theory of animal welfare and theory of animalrights. This paper chooses the global animal slaughter as the main background, andunder which turns the focal point of discussion back to China’s social phenomenon. And make certain research and analysis on the theory of animal liberation, the theoryof animal welfare and theory of animal rights, and these three theories haveconstituted the theoretical support for the research on the theory of animal slaughter inthis paper. Use the experience of the case of “Bear Gall Nightmare” combined withthe latest event of “Guizhen Hall” to promote the work in the entire area. And thenanalyze the consequence caused by the behavior of animal slaughter, and obtain theserious harm of animal slaughter on human beings as well as the actual harm of lackof laws of anti-cruelty to animals etc. on our society. The purpose of this paper is to alert human beings to change their prejudices and habits that have long been rooted inour thought, and propose that besides the “softening effect” of morality, legalregulations are also needed, and appeal to the anti-cruelty legislation by achievingconsistency with the today’s social public. Finally, the author makes a summative andadvance conclusion to the contents of this paper, and uses ethical outlook to push thethinking of the entire essay to a high degree to achieve the harmonious coexistence ofhuman beings and animals. The first chapter of this paper: it mainly introduces basic concepts involved inthe background issue of animal slaughter, and make definition on them. By takingdomestic and foreign representative cases as the contents of phenomenon description, and then view the “Guizhen Hall” event from the perspective of Extracting bear bile, explore the reasons behind the incident,The second chapter of this paper: firstly, thinking of three different aspectscaused by the animal slaughter is pointed out. Secondly, finding the serious hiddendanger of human nature through international studies on the nature of animalslaughter and make analysis by linking this event with animal slaughter in society, proposing the role of education on animal protection awareness could help children toestablish a correct concept of animal protection since childhood. Finally, give thereasons for why animal slaughter should be condemned. The third chapter of this paper: through the introduction of concepts and contentsof the theory of modern animal welfare, the ethical basis of the theory of animalwelfare and the misunderstanding on the animal welfare are discussed, theunderstanding of animal welfare is clarified, and finally it is illustrated that thewelfare relationship between human beings and animals is not opposite butinterdependent. The fourth chapter of this paper: it mainly describes that background of theconcept of animal rights and Tom Regan’s theoretical view of animal rights. Itfocuses on explaining the reasons of controversy of animal rights in academia, andmakes comments on the rationality of animal rights according to their views on thecontents of dispute. In the end, the author points out the foundation for the development of the theory of animal rights in China, and thinks that the practice of thetheory of animal rights in China is brave and hopeful. The fifth chapter of this paper: it mainly introduces the development of animalliberation and the controversial topics that the theory of animal liberation is facing, and then analyzes the essence of equality in the thought of Peter Singer. On the otherhand, the rich and profound ethical connotation in the thought of animal liberationindicates the close relationship between animals and human beings. The sixth chapter of this paper: it indicates besides the strength of morality,China is particularly urgent for the demand of the anti-cruelty legislation. It is must tohold up a “protective umbrella” and through the construction of Chinesecontemporary animal protection ethics for the harmonious co-existence of humanbeings and animals by combining the “soft means of morality” and “hard means oflaws”. And through the construction the basis of Chinese contemporary animalprotection ethics, it is proposed that we should be clear about our human beings’status in the nature, establish an ethical concept of “reverence for life”, and changeour attitudes and behaviors in treating animals from the bottom of heart.
