Xiao-Pin-Ji was the last classical Chinese novel before the Legend novel wasbanned in the early ages of Ming Dynasty. Its appearance came to be an importantsymbol of creative themes from reality to history, played an important role and hadgreat significance in the fiction history of Ming dynasty. In this paper, with thecomparative method, I try to evaluate the historical position of Xiao-Pin-Ji fairly, inorder to do something good for researching the future of classical Chinese novel of theMing Dynasty.Firstly, I summarize the lives and books of Zhao Bi in detail, so as to reveal theinfluence of his career and acquaintances on his concept of “Education is the first”.Then, through comparing Xiao–Pin-Ji with Yi-Jian-Zhi and Jian-Deng-Xin-Hua, I showthe “imitation” parts of this novel with the others in the creative minds, the contentsubject and the narrative technique. Furthermore, I put Xiao-Pin-Ji in the “Jian Deng”series of novels, in terms of the content subject, the artistic techniques and the narrativestructure, etc., describe the innovations to the other “Jian Deng” series of novels, collectthe reasons of these renovations and then demonstrate the historical flavor of theXiao-Pin-Ji. I finally set Xiao-Pin-Ji in the big circumstances of the Ming DynastyLiterature, summarize the blend relationship between Xiao-Pin-Ji and the popularnovels, choose the Mu-Mian-An-Ji as an Individual Case and confirm it as Zhao Bi’swork, then simply tease its effects in the end of this paper.
