Teaching material plays a significant role in teaching process, which has a direct impact on teaching quality. In the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, due to the features of informedness and timeliness and of having a close relation to people’daily life, newspaper reading material is pretty popular with overseas students and is of great function. Generally, texts from newspaper reading material of TCFL and materials for reading and practicing are directly selected by compilers from the existing newspaper and then processed by them. Chinese newspapers teaching material is not only a special language skills training material. Meanwhile, it also spreads national culture and knowledge. In terms of vocabulary, Chinese newspaper article is characterized by new words, learned words, written words and abbreviations. At the same time, it has features of fixed sentence and long sentence. In the aspects of structure, genre and headline, Newspaper articles have their own stylistic features, the content of which closely contacts with social life and is a reflection to true events. Such articles also combine the chrematistics of authenticity, scientificity, systematicity and practicality, informedness, timeliness and stability. Recently, there is no much research on newspaper reading material. Master’ thesis and Doctor’s thesis still haven’t made research on newspaper reading material of intermediate TCFL(The collection of CNKI shall prevail). Therefore, there is still lots of space to study this subject. This subject takes the two intermediate Chinese newspaper reading material of Times: Newspaper Reading Course of Intermediate Chinese and Reading Newspaper, Learning Chinese, An Intermediate Course of Chinese Periodicals as the research object, makes some summaries and conclusions on the advantage and deficiency of intermediate newspaper reading material, and then put forward some suggestions for compiling. The subject in the thesis can be divided into the following aspects:First, the comparison of teaching material and text. This thesis makes an analysis of compilation system of the two teaching materials from the construction of the whole book and single subject separately; and an analysis of intensive reading from the aspects of theme, genre and source of text; and an analysis from extensive reading.Second, the comparison of new words. Based on the outline of levels of TCFL, a detailed and complete statistics and analysis is made on the amount and levels of new words, and a detailed comparison and illustration are also made on the language differences of new words annotation in the two teaching materials.Third, the comparison of culture, knowledge and information. Newspaper article is a window for overseas students to understand Chinese culture. This subject carries on comparison and research on cultural features of newspaper words, fixed structures and sentences from the aspects of fixed structures, common sentence types, new words, words for metaphor and metonymy, common words for special and specific terms as well as idioms. At the same time, a detailed and complete comparison and research is carried on the notes of cultural background of the two teaching materials.Four, the comparison of exercises. This subject carries on a detailed and complete statistics and analysis of exercises in the two newspaper reading materials from the aspects of amount, type and kind of excises.
