In the field of teaching Chinese to foreigners of other language, setting up the reading course can develop students’ reading skill and also improve their reading ability. After a period of reading and writing exercises, they can make sentences and use words well.Then it’s time to improve their reading level, which will do help to comprehensive development. Obviously, the existence of the intermediate reading course and how to design the textbook all can directly influence their cognitive abilities and communicative competence.Textbooks are the most basic and important medium of class, which are the foundation of communication between teacher and students. The contrast of textbooks can not only compare the similarities and differences between the two, it can also help evaluate the teaching materials’ quality. Thus, we can choose the good aspects of this textbook to help the other textbook. And it will give the editors some advice. In class, the more targeted and scientific textbooks will do good to teacher and student interaction.Then, the class will become more efficient and interesting, and they will get twice the result with half the effort.This paper selects two sets of popular textbooks as objects of study. They are Intermediate Chinese Reading Course and Developing Chinese · Intermediate Reading Course. There will be a detailed comparison in the textbooks’ overall layout, teaching materials’ selection and classification, new words and exercises’ type and number. To some extent, the writer will compare the textbooks according to HSK examination paper to deserve the rationality. I found that the textbooks’ arrangement should be adjusted appropriately. The types of topics are not close to the life. And there should be a useful new words list. At the same time, a diversity of exercises types should be designed. The ultimate purpose of this paper is to improve the international students’ ability of secondlanguage acquisition.
