Textbook is the materialization of teaching ideas, principles, requirements and methods, and one important media for teachers to teach students culture knowledge and cultivate their capabilities. Whether the edition of textbook is scientific, systemic and stable would directly influence the teaching quality. With the rise of our country’s position in the world and the continuous heating of Chinese Craze, the name of Chinese teaching has transferred from Teaching Chinese as a foreign language to Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other languages. With strong practicability and informality, The Chinese Newspaper Reading Course has become one of the independent courses within the practice of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of other languages. Systemic, scientific and stable textbooks are necessary to guide such a special course as Chinese Newspaper Reading to ensure the scientificity, systematicness and stability of the teaching.Prints which include newspapers and journals is one of the important media for people to recognize and understand the society at present, and one important platform for people to evaluate the society and express their opinions. The opening of the Chinese Newspaper Reading course would not only provide extraordinary reading language materials for the foreign students, but also supply the latest information concerning the development and change of the language; besides, it offers the latest information, dynamics of the language society to general Chinese learners and embodies broad, real and dynamic cultural background of the Chinese society. However, as the research on our country’s teaching Chinese as a foreign language started late and developed very shortly, the research on the area of editing textbooks for Chinese Newspaper Reading in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language is relatively in short, and the full and systemic research thereof is insufficient.This essay took the three middle-degree textbooks which were Reading Newspaper and Learning Chinese (Near high-degree), Chinese Newspaper Reading Textbook and New-edited Chinese Newspaper Reading Textbook as the research objectives, integrally used the comparison, stating and thesis research and other methods to compare, analyze and summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the middle-degree Chinese Newspaper Reading textbooks in the areas of textbook positioning, editing characteristics and content composition, and wished to put forth some constructive suggestions.This essay is divided into five sections. The first section is the introduction part, which mainly introduces the background, objectives, aims and methods for this essay’s research. In our countries, the Chinese Newspaper Reading textbook has been formally publicized since1990s. The main effects for newspapers and journals are to reflect the latest dynamics of the society and serve as one type of media for people to know and understand the society. Therefore, through the courses of Chinese Newspaper Reading, the Chinese learners could see one broad, real and dynamic Chinese society. However, as the research on our country’s teaching Chinese as a foreign language started late and developed very shortly, the research on the area of editing textbooks for Chinese Newspaper Reading in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language is relatively in short, and the full and systemic research thereof is insufficient. This thesis will take three middle-degree textbooks as examples to analyze the editing characteristics of the Chinese Newspaper Reading Textbooks for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language through several research methods such as integral comparison, stats, and essay research. The second section will research the positioning of the Chinese Newspaper Reading for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from two areas of course and course type and analyze the characteristics of the textbook editing from the content, stylistic and language of the textbooks. The third section will compare the three textbooks in the three areas of textbook editing system, content composition and course exercise and analyze the characteristics of each textbook. The fourth section will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the three textbooks, and put forth some constructive suggestions to future Chinese Newspaper Reading for teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. The fifth section is the summary section to summarize the disadvantages of this thesis.
