Parenthesis is very important for the communication force as a pragmatic component. It is also a kind of discourse marker. The parenthesis which expresses the meaning from "me"(we call it I-Family Parenthesis, i.e. IFP) plays a key role in explaining ideas, giving advices, speculating and demanding. However, there is little knowledge on IFP in teaching Chinese as a second language. Many foreign students don’t know how to use IFP, and many problems can be found when some students make use of some common parenthesis, such as“对我来说(for me)"、“我想(I think)"、“我看(in my opinion)". Considering this situation, firstly we summarize and analyze the character of the Parenthesis, and classify IFP by their structural feature. Secondly we state the difference about purpose, scope, style, rhythm and effectiveness among them on the basis of Speech Act Theory. The research is carried out by statistically analysis of corpus from HSK dynamic composition corpus and the questionnaire among90foreign students. We find the use frequency of IFP among foreign students and the typical error types, and we prove that the level of foreign students and their ability in using IFP don’t have significant correlations by manipulating SPSS. Lastly we give some suggestions on teaching Chinese as a second language and textbook compilation, which are based on Speech Act Theory. The research aims at helping foreign students improve their Chinese in communication.
