Chinese characters’teaching is a comparatively weak point as well as an essential part in the Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. A good Chinese character textbook for foreign learners can give them a great help when learning. So the study of compiling and writing principal of Chinese character teaching materials should be meaningful and valuable.This article summarizes and analyzes the compiling and writing principal of Chinese character teaching materials, combining with the current Chinese character textbooks. It makes recommendations to compile a useful textbook, based on the questionnaire survey conducting among foreign students who learning in International Education College of Guangzhou University. This paper discusses the compiling and writing principals of Chinese character textbook in detail. It starts from various aspects of content selection, such as character selection, text and exercise compiling, knowledge of characters and so on. The mother tongue of students from Chinese-character-non-used countries is alphabetic writing. They are completely alien to Chinese characters. So it is very hard for them to learn Chinese characters well, especially in how to recognize, how to write, how to remember the meaning of them. This article also gives some proper suggestions, solutions and strategies aiming at these problems from cognitive perspective.
