Silk String of Laohekou is a folk string musical genre well spread inXiangfan Area(which is now called Xiangyang), Hubei Province. This is a musicalgenre with rich history and are widely accepted by the folk artisan and scholars. Thisarticle is the starting research about Silk String of Laohekou based on filed survey. Thewhole article is made of four chapters. The first chapter is a status of Silk String ofLaohekou according to the methodology of filed survey and statistic ofEthnomusicology. It is a overall statement of Silk String of Laohekou from the aspectof musicians, groups, instrument, performance form and songs. The second chapterfocuses on the music of Silk String of Laohekou. The writer use a form of “conception,behavior and sound” to analyze the music of this genre with the aspect ofAnthropology. Chapter three is the transition of Silk String of Laohekou. The writercompared the survey of2010to2012with the account of1986to1988from theaspect of musicians, structure of the band, way of inheriting, performing form, songsand musical form, in order to find out the changes during the last30years and explainthe reason why it is changing in this way. Chapter four is the environment research ofSilk String of Laohekou. The writer is trying to look for connections between theenvironmental factor and the music. And furthermore explain the connections andchanges with a cultural angle.
