A New Approach to Sight Singing is a kind of teaching material dealing withsight-singing teaching in all round way. This book, also titled as Sight Singing inAmerica, was published as early as in1960, compiled by three musical educators fromQueens College of The City University of New York: Professor Sol Berkowitz,Gabriel Fontrier and Leo Kraft.It has been republished five times since then. The newest edition was published inthe end of2010. Professor Edward Smaldone and Perry Goldstein also joined in thecompiling members. this paper takes the editions of A New Approach to SightSinging both in1960and2010as the researching object, attempting to elaborate onthe innovative idea of Sight-singing teaching based on its traditional system, throughin-depth, systematic presentation and comparison of these two editions’ differentaspects, so as to give both teacher and students at home more perspectives inSight-singing teaching.
