The public sign, as graphic symbols, is an international visual language that goes beyond the limit of language and culture, which is one of basic condition needed for the internationalization of a country or area. After a short span of more than30years of exploration, China has achieved great progress. On the basis of absorbing and referring to the advanced experience of the world, China have initially formed a relatively complete set of design system of graphical symbols visually oriented, some of which has been integrated with international standards. However, we still need to improve and perfect, compared with German public logo design that has been very mature, and from visual communication design point of view, our country’s public logo need to make a thorough study in the standardization, systematization and humanity, the balance of the art.In this paper, I have applied methods of data collection, electronic data collection, field trips, taking pictures, and collected many of road signs of public spaces, transit subway stop, the airport indicating system, waste separation and recycling identification system data in some German cities, and gave a summary of Logo graphic symbols, the set specifications and design idea. Early German design is often reminiscent of the rational, functional, and even the indifferent image. However, visual communication design as a service for the people can not ignore the emotional and psychological needs. In Germany today, design is quietly changing on the basis of absorbing of a variety of diverse design factors, and it has been becoming slowly more moderate and humane, and this trend is reflected in the design of the public signs.Learning the experience from Germany, and use it to improve the standards of public signs of design in China, can be in two ways:First, public road transport, general safety and other graphic symbols design must adhere to the first principle of "function", and in order to ensure public road transport system and social order orderly, safe and efficient operation, it should strictly implement design specifications that was established by national standards of graphic symbols, colors, fonts, etc; Second, on the premise of that it does not affect the correctness of the convey, the logo of shopping malls, hospitals, tourist attractions and other services allow personalized, innovative innovation to visual design such as graphics, text, etc., and it should faultlessly combine standardization and ratification so that public signs blend into the surroundings. In addition. the design of public signs should keep up with the times. In order to adapt China’s national conditions, some graphic symbols need to modify, add or delete, so that to meet increasing high-speed economic and social development and the need of artistic appreciation of the great masses of the people.
