Language is a social phenomenon, and the degree of standardization of the language isone of the symbol of the image of the whole city. Signs can represent the image of a city, thewords and language used in signs reflect the citizens overall culture quality and the degree ofcity’s civilization. This thesis takes Ji’nan signs as the object of study, through fieldinvestigation, photograph, and fill out the survey cards, investigated a total of8211signs. Theauthor carries on quantitative statistical analysis of the various types of errors, summed upthe reasons and proposed countermeasures. It can provide a reference for languagemanagement department as well as achieve the purposes of specification Jinan’s sign words.The joint efforts of the whole community are extremely needed to promote norms with wordsused in signs.Based on the National Common Language Law, the thesis is divided into the followingfive parts:chapter one provides an brief introduction to the research background as well aspurpose and significance of the study, then presents related literature review and thetheoretical foundations of the present study.Chapter two is the investigation of the Jinan signage word problems. This chapterincludes survey organization and survey results. Survey organization is the concreteconditions from the aspects of the scope of investigation and the object, method andrequirement to illustrate the specific organization of the study. The results of the survey iscarried out specific comparative analysis with irregular word font types, specific Street usagesand objects to reflect the current status of language application in Ji’nan.Chapter three presents analysis of the reasons for Jinan signage using the word problem.It mainly analyzed the cause of using traditional characters and the improper imitation words.Then the author puts forward that nonstandard words, the current character standards defects,the user culture level and the responsibility of relevant government departments not beimplemented are all related to this issue.Chapter Four is the analysis of Ji’nan signs in Chinese Pinyin application. Firstly, itprovides the signs in Chinese Pinyin error types Then, it made a point of ponder on thenonstandard situation.Chapter Five is the final chapter putting forward the countermeasures to solve the problem of city sign words. On the basis of the analysis of the Ji’nan sign characters,combined with the main work of the National Language Committee in2012, the authorproposed the corresponding strategies. It includes: strengthen propaganda and guidance toraise people’s awareness, consolidate character education in schools, taken GeneralStandardized Chinese Characters Table as the standards to unify the words used in society,optimized the Chinese IT products as well as unified supervision of language according tolaw.
