Therefore, the Tang Dynasty is the most important time to the research on the Five-character quatrains. At the same time, it’s necessary to research its origin and development, answer the question of its origin, sketch its progress way in a long time before the Tang Dynasty, and finally, we can get its different manifestations in different periods of Tang.The origin of the Five-character quatrains involved in two aspects as name and form, and they are not a synchronous process. From Qin Dynasty to the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Five-character quatrains get its form. Six to the early Tang period, the name of the quatrains appeared, and its style began regular, and creative activities showing the state of differentiation. At Tang period, the creation of the Five-character quatrains get its peak, almost all important works were produced in this period. In the late Tang period, the status of the Five-character quatrains was replaced by the Seven-character quatrains, and it inevitably entered a period of decline.
