In French music history, Gabriel Faure is an important composer, organist, pianist and educator across the19th and20th century music bridge. Chamber and songs are his most important creative fields, and the piano music is the significant part which enjoys abundant genre. What is more, the genre called’Riverboat’he created is his most music works. The creation time had gone through his all life.13’Riverboat’ in1883-1921were his core creation piano works.In his life, he had fully demonstrated his personal musical language with different characteristics’of French folk music. He inherited and developed the romanticism of French music and opened the impressionist precedent. Therefore,’Riverboat’had a deep research value both in music style and performance. Especially the op.66which is the representative works of the style transaction. The whole the music sounds soft, elegant and comfortable with a little romantic, which shows more passion of outpouring and the dramatic conflict, transformation of the mode and harmony of personalized. It is obviously that, the function and role of the chord is ambiguity, and it reflected his mature musical idea. In addition, it brought to any performer a higher requirements that how to handle this music style and the melodic development techniques and textures.The writer set this music as an example for the further understanding of Gabriel Faure’s creation characteristics and style and is trying to analysis this music deeply. More professional play methods and performance skills will be discovered and some useful suggestions are offered at the same time, which is in order to rich the French piano music teaching of that period.
