Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most outstanding composer at the baroqueperiod of the German, his music represents the highest achievement of music art atthat time, and he made a great contribution to the development of the Western music.He is known as the "father of western music".In Bach’s music creation, he not only pioneered the artistic style of baroqueperiod, but also made a profound effect on the later music style. Bach did not leaveGermany for all of his life, his creative style is closely combined with traditionalGerman music art form, but he also studied and researched other countries’ creatingstyles and skills such as Italy, Britain and France. He made the bold innovation inmusic form, created a lot of works of different styles and genres. d minor toccata andfugue BWV913is a polyphonic divertimento of many movements, mainly used in theexperimental skill practice. Toccata as a main line throughout the whole songconnects ingeniously two fugue paragraphs. This work has great research valuebecause Bach combined these two styles: toccata and fugue perfectly, which embodiesthe Bach’s rigorous formal structure features and superb polyphonic writing technique.This article will research this piece of work from the following three parts.The first part summarizes the background of this piece of work by outliningthe Bach’s musical work, the religious thought and cultural characteristics at thebaroque period.The second part mainly studies creation background, genre form and musicalform harmony of the Bach’s d minor toccata and fugue BWV913.The third part analyzes the playing experience of the d minor toccata andfugue BWV913.
