Robert Shumann, as one of the greatest musicians in the Romantic period inGermany, created a unique style of own by his pioneering music creation technique aswell as his novel and thorough comments on music. Combining music with literature,Shumann’s music gave a full expression of his feelings, which impressed people themost. The piano cycle Kreisleriana is one of the most remarkable works in the matureperiod of Robert Schumann’s piano composition, regarded as a musical biography ofShumann. In view the above consideration, this paper analyzed Shumman’s workfrom the perspective of music and literature. The analysis of music creation from theperspective of literature gave a full display of the spirit and the essence of Shumman’swork, which could enable the performers to interpret and to perform in different ways,expanding the performers’ scope of thinking, encouraging the performers to deliberateprofoundly on one’s idea of performance.
