The landscape painting of Yuan dynasty is another peak of the Chinese landscapepainting following those of five dynasties and Song dynasty, whose unique artisticachievement has a profound influence on development of later generations’ landscapepainting. There are numerous works concerning researches of landscape painting of Yuandynasty, which provides a fine research setting for us. However, it has been found that there islack of research in the specific evolutionary painting style of the landscape painting of Yuandynasty. Therefore, this paper intends to enhance and improve our understanding of thelandscape painting of Yuan dynasty and its underlying meaning of its evolutionary paintingstyle by discussing this evolution.The Landscape painting of Yuan dynasty focuses on meaning while that of Song dynastypursues ration whose grand style is different from the former having lingering meaning. Withregard to the inner reasons of these changes, besides the development rule of art itself they areclosely connected with its social and historical background. There are three deep reasons: first,the change of ideas guiding artistic creation of landscape painting of Yuan dynasty; second,the change of the team of landscape painter of Yuan dynasty; third, the changes of regions andobjects to model which lead to the change of the landscape painting style of Yuan dynasty.These mean that breakthroughs were made in aesthetic taste and creation of artisticconception further development was achieved in wrinkle method. Based on it, thispaper analyzes painters of different types so as to explore the change and development of thelandscape painting of Yuan dynasty along with its inspiration during this process obtained.
