Kong Anguo stylded himself Ziguo was the people of Lu. As the11thgeneration of Confucius’ posterity, he was an important scholar ofConfucianism and successor of Confucian classics. He lived during the149B.C. to90B.C. He learned the Book of Songs from Shenpei whenhe was young and then learned the Book of history from Fusheng. Hestudied the Confucian classics all his life and made great contribution tothe succession and development of Confucius’ family knowledge. Hesorted out the old version of the Book of history, the Analects ofConfucius and the Classic of Filial Piety and made annotations andcommentaries for them as well as compiled The Home Words ofConfucius which recorded the words and deeds of Confucius and hisstudents. In addition, he travled and studied in Hejian and was activelyengaged in politics. He once was a teacher of five Confucian classicbooks, a Privy Counselor, an Imperial Censor and finally the prefecturechief of Linhuai. He got fame as a good scholar as well as an official.There is currently no chronicle about him in the historical circle.And many events about him were documented not very well, whichbrings difficulties to research on him. Therefore, under the principle of“to know a person by studying his history”, the essay textually researched and sorted out cases relevant to Kong, such as his dates,bloodline, male offspring, official career, acquaintances and works,presenting an objective, impartial and comprehensive appraisal on him,which contributes to form a correct perspective on his historicalcontribution.
