Winfield Scott is the longest-serving military commander in the history of theUnited States, and also the first soldier wining the army rank of lieutenant generalafter Washington.He often use the word "professional" to describe his military career,in that century, professionalization is a very common thing in the UnitedStates.However, we can argue that the army is the earliest professional organizations,and Scott is its advocates, establish and keep a complete regular army and improve itspopularity is Scott life goal.This paper discussed Scott army professional thought from four aspects:The first part mainly introduces the life of Scott, and explains the ideologicalcauses of his military thought from the war experience, theory accumulation andothers affect.The second part focuses on the contents of Scott’s military thought, including hisattitude towards regular army,"the can expand regular army", pay attention to trainingand discipline, value the role of officers and military education, set up a professionalmilitary management institutions and other military thought.The third part focus on the contributions of Scott, including the significance ofthe Battle of Chippewa and the Battle of Lundy’s Land, run around to preserve theregular army, improve the regulars reputation, maintain the army’s united, the secondand third parts are the focus of this paper.The fourth part discusses the significance of Scott’s military professional thought,and briefly evaluate its military thought and limitations.
