Anglo-American Commission Of Inquiry (1945-1947)

The dissertation is a monographic study of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry which was established by Britain and the United States in 1945 in order to solve the problem of Jewish displaced persons in Europe and Palestinian issue.Chapter I is mainly about the backgrounds of the establishment of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry.After World War ?,the problem of Jewish displaced persons in Europe stood out.Palestine became the ultimate destination of them due to historical and realistic reasons.But Palestine was in bad condition at that point that there were a lot of Jewish resistance movements and Arab uprisings.Especially Britain,as the mandate country of Palestine,had been inability to solve Palestinian issue solely and hoped for help from the United States which both could maintain its strength and prevented Soviet power in the Middle East.At the same time,the United States began to pay close attention to the Middle East after the World War II.Driven by respective interests,Britain and United States achieve cooperation to solve problems.Therefore Committee was set up.Chapter ? is the highlight of the thesis.It discusses the main activities of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry.To promote the solving of problem of 100 thousand of Jewish displaced persons in Europe and Palestinian issue.Committee members spent three months investigating diverse Arab and Jewish individual and organization in three areas.The survey contents are mainly about immigration of European Jewish refugees,Palestinian political future,living standard of European Jews and the Palestinian economy and public security;Publish Report of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry which includes ten chapters and seven appendices which are mainly on the summary of investigation of the four aspects and puts forward some suggestions and the views of both Jews and Arabs.The appendices are mainly to investigate the problem on the relevant background knowledge,such as the estimate of the European Jewish population,etc.Chapter III mainly discusses the finality and historical value of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry.Report of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry was opposed after published and had no force to deal with any conflicts.The contradictions of great powers were irreconcilable.Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry is failed finally;however,it exerted a strong and far-reaching influence on situations in Palestine and the Middle East.It is a useful exploration to solve the problem of Jewish displaced persons in Europe and Palestinian issue.And establish the fundamental key of solving the Palestinian issue.Finally it promoted the transformation of British and American strategy in Middle East.Conclusion:Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry is an important stage in the history of the development of the Palestinian issue after the World War ?.And it is a beneficial exploration to understand the cause and the development of the Palestinian issue and the fundamental way of solving the Palestinian issue.Palestinian issue's complete solution not only needs the international cooperation based on the interests of Palestine,but also needs the real reconciliation between the Arabs and Jews.
