Nationalism And Overseas Chinese

In recent years,domestic and international media often use the word "Overseas Chinese Nationalism" to describe the close relationship between the Overseas Chinese and China.This paper aims at researching the the Overseas Chinese Nationalism,and taking the United Nations for example.The whole text is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is the formation and the development of the Overseas Chinese Nationalism before The 1950s.From the formation stage of the late Qing Dynasty to the climax stage of Sino-Japanese War, the early Overseas Chinese Nationalism had gone through four stages. The early Overseas Chinese nationalism have three unique features because it happened under the background of the nation’s crisis.The features are External cause is the main reason, the ordinary labourers from the middle and lower class are main participants, and it was mainly concentrated in two regions of North America and Southeast Asia.The second chapter analyses the the silence of Overseas Chinese Nationalism after 1950s,the causes of the phenomenon is discussed from domestic to foreign factors.The domestic reasons are the long-term Taiwan-mainland confrontation,the abandon of the Dual Citizenship Policy and the deviations of the Overseas Chinese policy before the Reform and Opening-up period.The international reasons are the intense international situation during the "Cold War" period,and The Conversion of the U.S. immigration policy after WWⅡ.Moreover this chatper describes the phenomenon that after 1950s the overseas Chinese nationalism subsided but not disappeared and why it caused.The third chapter is the analysis of the resurgence of Overseas Chinese Nationalism after the mid 1990s.The Deepening of the Globalization has a tremendous impact on the self-identity of the Overseas Chinese.The first section is the analysis of the performance of the recent Overseas Chinese Nationalism:the protection of the Olympic Flame and the Anti-Tibetan separatist.The second section is the analysis of the reasons of the Overseas Chinese Nationalism.The reasons are the identity of the Chinese Politics,the identity of the Chinese national sentiment and the identity of the Universal Values. The third section is is the analysis of the new features of the contemporary Overseas Chinese Nationalism in comparison with the of the early Overseas Chinese nationalism.The new features are the overseas students and the Chinese new immigrants becomes to be the main participant,the activities is concentrated in the urban areas in North America and Western Europe and the external and internal factors intertwined. The formation,development, silence and the re-emergence of the Overseas Chinese Nationalism are deeply rooted and has its historical background.Competition and common prosperity are the mainstream of the contemporary world. Seeking the freedom and the intellectual nationalism is the future trend of Overseas Chinese Nationalism.
