With the development of information technology and the Internet, the worldentered an era of Internet. As the most interactive communication tool and media,Internet is changing the way of peoples’ life. It expands the channels of politicalparticipation. However, Internet is a double-edged sword, it not only expandschannels of public opinion formation and citizens’ political participation, but alsobring some negative effects. However, we should realize that in the Internet era,citizen participation has played an irreplaceable role in the formation of publicopinion. Then, how should we see the citizen participation in the Internet era? How toevaluate the role of citizen participation in the formation of public opinion? What’sthe prospect of the citizen participation in Internet era? These problems are not onlydrawing the attention of scholars, but also increasingly becoming the focus of thewhole society.This thesis is divided into three parts: the first part discusses the citizenparticipation in the Internet era, including the development of the Internet, the conceptand development of citizen participation in the Internet era, especially the effects ofmicro-blog on citizen participation. The second part talks about the effect of thecitizens participation on the formation of public opinion, both positive and negativeimpacts are included. The third part gives its focus on the development prospects ofcitizen participation in the Internet era. The author proposed in the Internet era, weneed to strengthen the network culture building, the network legal system buildingand the citizens cognition. All these are of great practical significance to theexpansion of socialist democracy and the development of political construction ofsocialism with Chinese characteristics.
