Social Linguistics Research Of Place Names In Chaoyang

The district names relate with social cultural lives a lot. Due to some social reasons, thestudy of district names of Chaoyang is rare and the sociolinguistic study of that is even on theblank stage. The article is focused on the study of district names of Chaoyang fromsociolinguistic angle with great importance of social and cultural value.There are totally 1698 district names(names for at least villages) in Chaoyang. The articleshows the linguistic source, naming characteristic and reflected social and cultural status of thedistrict names in Chaoyang by investigation and analysis of historical records and relatedmaterials of district names.The article is composed of three parts. The first part analyzes and concludes the basicconstitution of district names in Chaoyang in light of the syllabicity and word structure. Thesecond part is focused on the linguistic source and characteristic of those names, whose sourceis mainly Chinese language and Mongolian and rarely Manchu language. The district names inChaoyang feature on majority of Chinese sourcing names, three syllable name and immigrantinfluence. The third part analyzes the close relationship between the district names and societyand culture in six aspects: geographic distribution, political change, economics activity, ethniccontact, immigrants history and religion culture.
