In the Early20th Century, the Federative Republic of Brazil’s diplomatic achievements attracted the world’s attention. Rio-Branco was then the foreign minister. The booming of coffee and rubber industry originated from Brazil provided impetus to the whole Brazilian economy. Its politics became more stable, not to mention the diplomatic endeavor by the outstanding diplomat Baron Rio-Branco and his assistants. All these helped Brazil achieved its diplomatic goals set by generations. Its border disputes that had frustrated the Brazilians were settled, its status in South America was improved and hence its national prestige. Therefore, the period from1902to1912was named "the Time of Rio-Branco". His most prominent diplomatic achievement was Brazil’s alliance with America, which set the tone for Brazil’s diplomacy in the20th century.The development of the diplomatic relationship between Brazil and America shall be divided into two stages:1902to1906and1907to1912. The stage from1902to1906witnessed the disputes in the Acre area, the territory issue between Peru and Brazil and the independence of Panama. The two countries developed their relationship from an embryonic stage to a much better one. After that came the crest of the relationship between the two. They both changed their legation into embassy. US Secretary of State, Elihu Root, paid his first state visit to Brazil and participated in the Third Pan American Conference. The second stage of the development of the relationship between Brazil and America was from1907to1912, from a suffering to restoring. From the Hague Conference, grudges were produced between the two countries. Under the endeavor of the diplomatic personnel of the two countries, the relationship was restored and enhanced. American fleet visited Brazil and Brazil actively mediated between the diplomatic disputes between America and Chile. With the promotion of a series of factors, the diplomatic relationship between Brazil and America experienced its "honeymoon period". However, this relationship then went from high tide to low tide with the changing of international and domestic situations.
