This paper makes a researsh mainly on Gorbachev’s and Deng Xiaoping’s diplomaticstrategy adjustment in1980s in last century. By comparision and thinking, this paper obtainssome experience and lessons. This paper consists of four major parts: the world strategic pattern of1980s, the commenessof China’s and Soviet’s foreign policy, the differences between China’s and Soviet’s foreignpolicy adjustment, and the evaluation of foreign policy. The first part of the text maily makes an analysis on the world strategic pattern of1980s.Because of the US attacking and defensing force contrast, Soviet had to carry on a strategiccontraction. Meanwhile, the disadvantages in the economy and politics of Soviet had thoroughlycome out. By the time, the diversification of the world’s political situation had begun to takeshape. Japan and the European Union sought for a new international status, and also China’sinternational status promoted day by day.The second part of the text mainly writes about the generality of the foreign policy reformof China and Soviet. Both Deng Xiaoping and Gorbachev thought the nuclear war couldn’t breakout and the world’s general trend is peace. And they formed a new viewpoint on the world’s trend.Meanwhile, a comparatively favorable peace environment is needed at the time of the internalreform. Moreover, Deng Xiaoping hoped China step up on the international stage with a newimage, and Gorbachev hoped Soviet step up on the international stage with a new image. Chinawould carry on the peaceful route, and Soviet would fight for the interests of "all mankind".The third part of the text writes about the differences between China’s and Soviet’s foreignpolicy adjustments. China always adhered to the Principle of Independence and firmly opposedto the other countries’ interference in China’s internal affairs, while Soviet’s foreign policyadjustments had a serious westernization tendency and Soviet expected help and support fromUS. In the guiding ideology aspect, China put forward the "Peace Diploma" policy, while Soviet"New Thought". In comparison, China’s foreign policy was more feasible, which was pragmaticand matter-and-fact, while Soviet’s was separated from their national interests, seeking for theinterests of "all mankind", which broke away from the reality and had a rather strong sentimentalcolor. The fourth part of the text is a conclusion. It mainly evaluates the foreign policies. It pointsout the basic route of the foreign policies and the basic strategies of the foreign policy adjustments.
