With the continuous growth of trade liberalization, China’s foreign trade has anincreasing impact on world trade. The economic and trade development is alsoaccompanied by the improvement of people’s moral awareness and the strengthening ofsocial responsibility. The labor standards, more and more drawn world attention, havebecome one of the three hot topics in the WTO. The developed and developingcountries have engaged in a fierce debate around labor standards. In order to get rid ofthe plight of the domestic economic growth and prevent the impact of the products ofdeveloping countries to the domestic industry, the developed countries made greatefforts to link labor standards and international trade. While labor standards are notincluded in the WTO’s multilateral rules, they were used in regional trade agreements.Labor standards has become one of new trade barriers. However, the developingcountries are strongly opposed to the link because it will increase labor costs, whichhave a tremendous influence on the development of China’s export-orientedlabor-intensive industries. Under this background, the study of international laborstandards has not only theoretical significance but also practical significance for China’sforeign economy and trade. This paper tried to use datatoanalyzethecause, essenceandmeasuresofinternationallaborstandardsintradeliberalizationthroughanempiricalperspectiveandanalyzedobjectively its influence on China’s foreign and its reality in the country. And based on thelack ofdomestic legislative system, lax enforcement and other legalproblems, I putforwardcountermeasures and suggestions. I hope thispapercanprovide useful help anreference tothe practice of labor standards in China.
